Magoha Orders These Students Be Enrolled In Day Schools With Immediate Effect
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has issued a new directive to parents and local education authorities requiring all students who performed well but were unable to enroll in secondary schools of their choice to immediately enroll in day schools.
On Saturday, May 21, the CS spoke in Isinya, Kajiado County, arguing that lack of school fees should not be a barrier to parents admitting their children to high schools.
He suggested that if parents could not afford to send their children to boarding schools, they should instead send them to nearby day schools.
He also revealed that the state provided free education in daily secondary schools and urged parents to take advantage of it.
He also directed the constituency’s education officials to conduct mop-up exercises to ensure that all students are enrolled in secondary schools.
The CS claimed that some parents refused to send their children to school because they lacked school fees.
“All education officials must mop up all students and take them to the nearest day schools because they are absolutely free, the government has catered for free secondary education and all a child needs, is uniform,“ he stated.
This comes just a week after education stakeholders expressed concern about the large number of students who have yet to enroll in form one, despite the government’s 100% transition policy.
On May 15, some parents protested the high cost of education in the country, alleging that principals were making unreasonable demands, including raising school fees.
Magoha, on the other hand, promised that the ministry would begin the mop-up exercise on Monday, May 16, to ensure that no student is left behind.

"We still have a sizeable number of students who are yet to report. I think we can say that time is not yet over as we are beginning the exercise on Monday,” the CS admitted at the time.
Since 2019, the Ministry of Education has pushed for a complete transition but has frequently fallen short of the mark.
