Mackenzie’s “Cult” Disrupts Education and Welfare of Malindi Children, Labour CS Steps In
Florence Bore, the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, recently visited a group of children who were reportedly indoctrinated by controversial Malindi preacher Paul Mackenzie. The children, who had been living in a “cult” run by Mackenzie in Shakahola, had been forced out of school and were not receiving adequate care or food.
Bore noted that the affected children are now in safe hands and are being assisted by the state. She said that the children officers under the State Department of Social Protection are ensuring that the children are safe and that they are currently acclimatizing to their new residence and undergoing play therapy.
As of Wednesday morning, eleven children had been rescued to a safe location. The ministry is also looking into the welfare of the children and how they can continue with their schooling. One boy is currently in the hospital, and a two-week-old infant is with the mother.
Bore confirmed that counseling for the affected children will begin on Monday next week, and she emphasized the importance of ensuring that the children receive proper care and education. The children had been deprived of these basic rights while under the influence of Mackenzie’s cult.
“The Children are currently acclimatizing to the new residence and are undergoing play therapy,” she said
The visit by Bore highlights the government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring that they receive the necessary support to recover from traumatic experiences. The ministry’s efforts to provide counseling and education to the affected children are crucial in helping them to reintegrate into society and lead fulfilling lives.
