KUPPET Asks TSC to Transfer Teachers from Mogusii Secondary Over Rising Community Hostility
The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) has urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to relocate teachers from a Nyamira school where they face potential danger from the local community.
The petition comes following a situation at Mogusii Mixed Secondary School in Borabu Sub-county, where nine teachers have refrained from reporting to work for three weeks.

Allegedly, the community has cautioned them against being in proximity to the institution, which registered poor performance in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.
On Tuesday, Kuppet representatives, including Chairman George Makaa, Executive Secretary Lewis Nyakweba, Vice Chairman George Ayieko, Branch Treasurer Stella Moturi, and assistant Secretary Festus Segera, approached TSC Nyamira county offices.
Their objective was to engage with Deputy Director Collins Ariko, as Director Catherine Mwenda was unavailable. Accompanied by the affected teachers, the officials proceeded to the county headquarters where they met with Joseph Kaga, the County Director of Education.
The union leaders cited a land dispute involving the school and the local community as the underlying cause of hostility towards the teachers.
George Makaa emphasized, “There are about four active cases on the same land where the school sits and even around it. We don’t want our teachers to be killed or injured because of the wrangles.”

According to Lewis Nyakweba, villagers forcefully removed teachers from the school premises on January 15, following incidents of stone pelting and subsequent humiliation.
“They stormed the school and forcibly removed the teachers in front of their students in a very humiliating manner before instructing them to stay away from the school,” Nyakweba explained.
Before deciding to stay away from work, three teachers were reportedly confronted by youths for disregarding warnings to avoid the institution.
The union alleged that security authorities displayed reluctance in addressing the matter, likely due to the complexity of the ongoing disputes.
Presently, the school’s enrollment has dwindled to 50 students, marking a significant decline from the 2023 figures. Notably, the institution recorded a mean score of 2.9 in the 2023 KCSE exams.
