Knut Asks Ruto to Fulfill Electoral Promise Of Hiring 106,000 teachers.
Knut has requested that the government of Kenya Kwanza fulfill its electoral promise to hire 106,000 teachers.
KNUT had launched negotiations with the Teachers Service Commission for a 60 percent salary increase for teachers.
“We ask Ruto’s government to award the teachers their demands and avert the strikes which have been the norm in previous governments,” he said.
They also want the state to conduct a comprehensive review of candidates for the Competency-Based Curriculum task group and avoid politicizing the education issue.
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Deputy Secretary-General Hesbon Otieno stated that the union welcomes the CBC review which has garnered both praise and criticism.
The task force that will determine the future of the Competency-Based Curriculum according to KNUT should be comprised of all stakeholders in the education industry.
We ask President William Ruto to exclude from the task force individuals who will bring politics to the education discussion table,“ said Mr. Otieno.
He delivered these statements at Kapsoit secondary school during the election for executive secretary of the Kericho KNUT branch.
The new executive secretary of the Kericho branch of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) stated that she will utilize her position to address teacher concerns and education issues without fear or favor.
She said that her triumph continued the trend of women assuming leadership positions in the country.
