KNEC To Administer 8-4-4 and CBC Examinations in November
The Kenya Examination Council (KNEC) is preparing to offer three examinations for Grade Six, the pioneer class for the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), Standard Eight, and Form Four in the third term.
November will see the administration of the KCPE, KCSE, and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).
This year, Knec was required to administer two examinations in April and November due to the accelerated school calendar.
In Prof. Magoha’s redesigned school calendar for 2020, teachers were instructed to adopt the new calendar and ensure timely curriculum coverage.
The Ministry of Education froze the school calendars for 2020, 2021, and 2022 for approximately six months apiece, allowing the calendar to resume its typical January-December format in January 2023.
The idea to compress the school year was recommended by a Covid 19 Education Taskforce Committee.
In their report-detailed talks, the stakeholders concluded that if the calendar is not altered, many students will overrun their schooling years.
Prof. Magoha issued an 11-week school break to accommodate a phased reopening for students in the condensed curriculum.
Prior to the epidemic, the first and second terms lasted 14 weeks, while the third term lasted 10 weeks, allowing candidates for Standard Eight and Form Four to take their exams in October and November, respectively.
The students were also permitted to take mid-February and mid-June breaks during the first and second terms.
The government prohibits learners from taking a break during the third term.
