KeNHA Scholarship Program for High School Leavers; How to Apply
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has launched a new scholarship program for high school leaversĀ from three Coastal counties.
The program targets 18- to 35-year-old residents of Kwale, Kilifi, and Mombasa who lack formal training at the Diploma level or higher.
KeNHA stated that applicants must be able to read and write, hold KCSE or KCPE certificates, or have dropped out of school with no formal education.
In an advertisement, the authority stated that recipients will receive scholarships to cover tuition and examination fees, course materials, and a monthly subsistence allowance.
Phase 1 and Lot 1 of the two multinational projects Bagamoyo-Horohoro/Lunga Lunga-Malindi and the Mombasa-Mariakani highway project provide funding for the program.
The African Development Bank and a grant from the European Union are funding these initiatives.
Applicants from low-income families and informal settlements within the municipalities traversed by the project road will be considered, according to the authority.
“Preference will be given to orphaned youth and/or those from single-parent families, as well as young single mothers who meet the requirements,” KeNHA stated, adding that persons with disabilities will be considered.
Courses will be offered at Christian Industrial Training Center, Kenya Coast National Polytechnic, Mtongwe Vocational Training Centre, Vocational Training Centre-Kilifi, and Mkwajuni Vocational Training Centre as part of the scholarship.
Courses include welding and fabrication, motor vehicle mechanics, masonry, cake, bread, and decoration, basic electrical, basic tailoring, computer operator, basic cosmetology, plumbing and pipe fitting, and metal processing technology.
The duration of training ranges from three to twelve months, depending on the course being taken.
