Rules and Instructions for Teachers and Candidates
Guidelines for Teachers
Teachers should ensure that the candidates carefully read and follow these instructions and rules.
The candidates should know what will happen if they cheat on an exam or do something wrong.
DIRECTIONS TO APPLICANTS
Use the time outside the exam room to look around and be seated at your desk or table 15 minutes before the exam time for each paper.
As shown on the schedule, the first session will begin at 8:00 a.m., and the second will follow at 9:00 a.m.
If a candidate is late, they will have to give the supervisor a good reason.
If a candidate is over half an hour late, they will not be given a paper unless there is a good reason.
All papers must be turned in on time, no matter what.
Look at the question paper you were given to make sure it’s the one you signed up for.
Tell the supervisor immediately if you are given an exam paper for which you haven’t signed up or if the questions say that a map or other material should have been given.
Pay close attention to any general instructions on the first page of a paper. For example, there may be instructions about how many questions you should answer.
Make sure that your question paper is printed on every page.
On the answer booklet, write your name, index number, signature, and the date of the test.
Use both sides of the paper to write, but don’t write in the margins. Each part of the answer to a question should start on a new line.
Write the question number clearly in the left margin at the start of each answer. Don’t write the question down.
Make sure to number your answers the same way as it says on the question paper. After answering each question, leave a blank line.
Use black or blue ink to write your answers. Either a fountain pen or a ballpoint pen will work.
Only diagrams should be drawn with a pencil. Bring math and drawing tools if needed for any of your classes.
Pay close attention to each question. If you write down things that aren’t asked for, you might waste a lot of time and get no points.
Don’t take too long on just one or two questions. Leave enough time for yourself to answer other questions.
As soon as you are told to stop, make sure your name, index number, signature, and exam date are written on the answer booklet.
Then, please give it to the Supervisor or invigilator.
RULES FOR APPLICANTS
You can’t leave the exam room before the end of the time given for the paper unless the Supervisor gives you special permission to do so.
No candidate who has been given permission to leave the exam room may take a question paper or answer book with them.
Don’t leave a piece of paper you’ve written on or your answers where someone else could see them.
You shouldn’t give or get unfair help or try to do so by copying or in any other way, and your work shouldn’t show evidence of unfair help.
During the exam, candidates and outsiders are not allowed to talk to each other or anyone else in any way.
You can’t have any books, notes, papers, or other materials in your possession or near you while you’re in the exam room.
The only exceptions are the correct question papers and materials that the Kenya National Examinations Council has given you permission to use.
You can only use math tables that were printed by the Kenya National Examinations Council.
These tables should only have the information that was printed on them and no other notes.
If the regulations let you use a calculator, it should be the nonprogrammable calculator that is listed.
If you’re not sure, ask the Supervisor.
Calculators can be used in the following classes: math, biology, physics, chemistry, agriculture, woodwork, metalwork, building construction, power mechanics, electricity, drawing and design, aviation technology, computer studies, and business studies.
You must give any question paper with smudges, mistakes, or bad printing right away to the Supervisor.
You can’t take any paper out of the exam room, whether it’s been used or not. Any rough work must be done on the official answer booklet.
If the rough work is not to be turned in with the answers, it must be left on the desk for the Supervisor to pick up and destroy.
Any bad behavior or making a lot of noise in or near the exam room will be counted as an exam mistake.
If the practical papers are to be taken in shifts, all of the people taking the test must be willing to be confined.
Any candidate who doesn’t show up for confinement will have done something wrong during the exam.
Cell phones and other electronic devices that can be used to talk are not allowed in exam rooms.
If a candidate is found with a cell phone or any other kind of electronic device, his or her results will be thrown out.
PENALTY FOR EXAMINATION IRREGULARITIES
If there are problems with an exam, Sections 27 to 40 of the KNEC Act No. 29 of 2012 will be used to describe the offenses and penalties. Some of the most important parts of these sections say:
If a candidate cheats on an exam in any paper, the results for the whole subject will be thrown out. Such a candidate will not get a score and will get an overall score of “Y.”
If there is evidence of widespread cheating at an exam center, the results for the whole center will be thrown out.
Anyone who:
a) gets access to examination material and knowingly tells an unauthorized person, whether they are a candidate or not, what is in it, either orally or in writing, will be in violation of Section 27 of the Act and face up to ten years in prison, a fine of up to two million shillings, or both;
ALSO READ:
b) willfully and maliciously damaging examination material will be in violation of Section 30 of the Act and face up to ten years in prison.
Please make sure you don’t do anything wrong during an exam so that your results don’t get thrown out.
