The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams for 2022 were issued by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, who recognized a substantial improvement from the previous year.

On Friday, when he released the results at Mitihani House in Nairobi, Machogu stated that candidates who are not in close vicinity to their respective examination centers can access the results via SMS services.

“Candidates can collect their results from their respective examination centres. Individual candidate results can also be accessed by sending a candidate’s index number followed by the initials KCSE through a short messaging service to 20076,” said Magoha who noted that the results will be available immediately after his address.

According to Machogu, of the 881,416 candidates who took the KCSE examinations in 2022, 173,345 earned a grade of C+ or higher, compared to 145,775 in 2021.

In 2022, a total of 1,146 candidates earned an A grade, compared to 1,138 in 2021, while 522,588 candidates earned a D+ or higher on the 2022 exams.

The CS also stated that the number of candidates who earned a grade E on the 2022 KCSE exam decreased dramatically from 46,151 in 2021 to 30,822 in 2022.

According to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), the government of KCSE exams involved multiple sectors.

However, the marking process was disrupted as a portion of teachers at Mang’u Girls High School walked off the job owing to low pay.

During the exercise on Tuesday, January 10, the teachers also complained about newly implemented cautious measures in the marking procedure.

According to the tutors, the measures slowed down the marking process, requiring them to complete assignments for longer than anticipated.

Nevertheless, Machogu and Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang appeared at St. Francis Mang’u Girls School to address the teachers’ complaints.

Friday, January 20 at Mtihani House in Nairobi, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia pledged to intercede to prevent disruptions in exam marking.
