Student Admits to Arson Charges.
Last month, a student from Ober Secondary School in the Rachuonyo East sub-county of Homa Bay pled guilty to lighting a fire at the school.
The student told a judge in Oyugis that he started the fire that destroyed Sh2.6 million worth of goods.
The academic materials of 176 students were destroyed in a fire on August 29 morning, causing them to suffer a financial loss.
The police first apprehended seven individuals who were claimed to have been in the burning dormitory while their classmates were in class.
Confession
Later, the student admitted that he was the mastermind of the arson.
The remaining individuals were mentioned as witnesses in the case.
Wednesday, when he was arraigned, he admitted to the offense to Oyugis Principal Magistrate Celesa Okore.
“I will never do it again. I ask for pardon,” he pleaded to the court.
The student stated that he committed the crime due to peer pressure.
He said that his friends encouraged him to set fire to the dorm.
Ms. Okore determined that the student must be kept until his sentencing on Monday.
He will face an age assessment in jail.
