Govt Urged to Hasten Preparations for New Senior Secondary Education System
The principals also agreed to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to ensure a seamless progression for students from the 9th grade of Junior Secondary School to the 10th and 11th grades of Senior Secondary School.
In order to avoid a chaotic implementation of the new senior secondary school education system, the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (Kessha) urged the government to speed its preparations.
School administrators, according to Indimuli should be aware of the newest Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) roadmap for early planning.
“I am happy that KICD has come up with the roadmap and this gives us an opportunity to go back to our schools to interrogate the roadmap with our boards of management to start analyzing what we have and therefore what kind of pathway we should start thinking about it,” said Indimuli.
The majority of schools are unprepared, according to the heads of schools, and the government should start thinking about a smooth rollover now, two years before the first class transitions to senior secondary.
Because most private schools have already started preparing themselves for the three options, the Kessha chair highlighted that public schools may be at a disadvantage.
Due to ongoing difficulties with infrastructure, school administrators are demanding careful preparation before launch.
“With the road map being given, I think we are not too late. We must rush so that in the next two years we are ready,” he said.
According to Indimuli, the report of the presidential task force on education would serve as the basis for most of the regulations.
