Govt Invites Degree, Diploma Holders To Apply For 1000 Tutors Jobs in Technical Colleges
Before the reopening of 144 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, the government has prepared the groundwork for the hiring of 1,000 tutors.
887 tutors will be assigned to Technical Training Institutes (TTIs), 79 to national polytechnics, and 34 to institutions servicing students with special needs.
In an advertisement, Public Service Commission Chief Executive Officer Dr. Simon Rotich encouraged degree and diploma holders to apply.
This comes less than two weeks after President William Ruto expressed his administration’s intention to hiring more tutors in TVET institutions throughout the country.
Dr. Ruto stated that 2,000 tutors will be hired this month to ensure that our institutions, particularly those specializing in engineering, are up-to-date with the skills and competencies they teach.
The head of state expressed disappointment at the decline of TVET education, stating that the suggestions of the Presidential Working Group will ensure the health of TVET institutions and universities.
‘‘The TVET programme, which has been my pet project that I have been pushing since I was the minister of Higher Education, slowed down in the last four years because of politics,“ Ruto added.
During the 17th graduation ceremony at Eldoret Polytechnic last year, former PS Margaret Mwakima stated that the government was committed to hiring an additional 3,000 tutors to minimize the deficit.
’‘We already have the approval to recruit 3,000 trainers and we want to bridge the gap that is currently at 6,500 trainers. Our TVET institutions are constrained as far as trainers are concerned,” Dr Mwakima said.
Due to the fact that many municipalities and boards contract trainers, “the capitation money we provide are spent on recurrent expenditures rather than development projects,” she explained.
Eldoret National Polytechnic will receive the most tutors with 12, followed by Kabete, Kenya, Coast, and Kisii national polytechnics, each of which will receive nine tutors. The national polytechnics of Kisumu, Nyeri, and Sigalagala will each receive eight instructors, while NEP Kenya and Meru polytechnics will receive six and five tutors, respectively.
The most in-demand tutors specialize in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering (Power), Surveying, Architectural, Building, and Civil Engineering, as well as Medical Laboratory Technology.
The tutors will be hired on a permanent basis with pension benefits. Those in Job Group C2, formerly Job Group K, must possess a bachelor’s degree in related fields and be registered with relevant agencies.
Tutors would receive a monthly wage between Sh35,400 and Sh46,230, in addition to a monthly commuting allowance of Sh6,000 and an annual leave allowance of Sh5,000.
Those in Job Group J must possess diplomas in the disciplines mentioned and be adept in computer application abilities. They would receive a monthly pay ranging from Sh29,190 to Sh34,440, a commuting allowance of Sh4,000 per month, and an annual leave allowance of Sh4,000 per year.
