Form 3 Student Killed in Disco Matanga
The tragic death of a 19-year-old student, Elvis Omondi, has left the community of Kabondo Kasipul in Kisumu County in mourning.
Elvis, who was a Form 3 student at Kowidi Mixed Secondary School, died on Sunday morning while being rushed to the hospital.
The circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear, and security officials are actively searching for the suspects responsible.
Elvis, who hailed from Kodhoch West location in the Kabondo Kasipul constituency, went to a night disco at Kakolasiany village in the nearby Nyakach constituency with some friends.
Security officers have yet to determine what led to the confrontation between the student and the suspects.
According to the Kodhoch West location chief, Charles Dete, Elvis succumbed to injuries sustained during the incident, which included panga cuts on his head, stomach, arms, and back.
The assailants carried and dumped an unconscious Elvis in Kabondo Kasipul before running away. Passers-by saw the injured student and took him to Ramula subcounty hospital for treatment, but his condition worsened, and he was referred to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital for specialized care.
Sadly, Elvis died on his way to the county referral hospital. His mother, Christine Okeyo, has asked the police to expedite their investigations into her son’s death.
The body of Elvis was taken to Okita mortuary in the Kabondo Kasipul constituency, and the subcounty police boss, Justus Kucha, has warned residents against attending disco matanga, which is illegal.
Kucha said that the police are working closely with the family and are looking for the suspects to record their statements in regards to Elvis’s death.
