Class 7 Pupil Who Disappeared From School Rans From Bushes, Defiled Crying For Help
A Kisumu family is looking for justice after their 12-year-old girl went missing from school and was found defiled with blood on her clothes.
The Ministry of Education and the police are looking into the matter.
A Good Samaritan found the Class 7 student at a Kisumu county school in the Otonglo area, away from the school.
The mother stated that they were contacted at 5 a.m. on Monday and informed that their daughter was absent from school.
That day, family members traveled from Nairobi and arrived in Kisumu at 4.30 p.m. They went to the school, about 30 kilometers away from Kisumu, to find out what had happened.
“Then we started searching for our daughter. Then we got a call and my daughter was on the other end, crying,” the distraught mother told the Star.
When they spoke with the phone’s owner, he explained that he was in his tuk-tuk when the girl emerged from nearby bushes on Monday. She came to a halt in front of him, yelling for help.
The driver reassured her, took her inside, and she gave him her mother’s phone number.
The family drove to Otonglo and found her crying in the Good Samaritan’s tuk-tuk. Her clothing was drenched in blood.
“When she saw me, she hugged me tight, we took her to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital where she was treated and all the necessary tests done,” the mother said.
Now she wants to know how her daughter vanished from the school while she was under its protection.
“Our daughter was in school. How is it that she left school? Where did she pass? There’s a perimeter wall that she can’t climb. The gates are closed and we have a watchman there,” the mother told the Star.
She stated that the negligence that resulted in her daughter’s ordeal is intolerable.
She spoke at the hospital after her daughter was discharged on Wednesday.
She claimed that since Monday, when they discovered their daughter, and even after informing the school, nobody from the school tried to find out what had happened until Wednesday, when she was discharged.
A suspect was reportedly arrested, but no further information was immediately available. The OCPD was not returning phone calls.
She stated that even though a suspect has already been apprehended in the Otonglo area, nothing seems to be adding up.
When contacted for comment, the school’s principal stated that she was driving and couldn’t speak.
The case is being investigated, according to Kisumu County Director of Education Peter Munene.
