Bloody Scrotum: 5 Teachers Beat Student in ‘Torture Chamber’, Raptures His Testicles
Instead of being a place of learning, Nyabisia Secondary School in Bobasi constituency’s Nyamache division has become a horror site for students who have fallen victim to the school’s alleged “torture chamber.”
In another disturbing instance of corporal punishment in schools in Gusii, a high school student has described how his teachers brutalized him to the point where he lost a testicle.
The 19-year-old student, whose name is being withheld to protect his identity, claimed that he was subjected to extreme physical abuse by five teachers and a school security guard, resulting in the rupture of one of his testicles.
The incident reportedly occurred Monday after the student was accused of cheating in the ongoing end-of-term exams. The student alleged that he was caught with a suspected leaked exam paper, which he claimed he had just received and had not used to answer his exam questions.
According to the student’s account, after being caught with the exam paper, he was taken to a room that he had heard other students describe in chilling terms as the “torture chamber.” He refused to enter the room and insisted that he was not the author of the leaked paper.
However, the teachers allegedly became violent, kicking and punching him before binding his hands and feet with ropes and placing a wooden trunk between his legs and hands. The student pleaded with them to let him go home if they believed he had broken any school rules, but his pleas fell on deaf ears.
The student reported that he was then mercilessly whipped with electric cables by several individuals, each striking him ferocity and causing severe pain in his testicular area. Despite informing the perpetrators of the injury, they callously responded with “mambo bado” (you haven’t felt real pain yet) and beat him until he lost consciousness.
The harrowing account of the student’s ordeal is distressing to listen to, and the severity of his abuse is alarming. After regaining consciousness, the student was bleeding and in pain in the school dormitory. Other students who saw him inquired about the severity of his injuries and informed the teachers, who came and requested hot water and salt, claiming it was for first aid.
The student stated that he had asked to be taken to the hospital, but the teachers had tried to dissuade him from going, citing potential police involvement. The school administration allegedly attempted to persuade him not to file criminal charges against the teachers and assured him that the matter would be resolved amicably.
However, the student’s injuries were too severe to ignore. He was taken to Hema Hospital in Kisii town, where doctors confirmed that one of his testicles had been ruptured and needed to be removed. The police in Kisii, who confirmed the incident, stated that they would arrest and prosecute the suspects.
The chief of police for the county, Charles Kases, visited the student in the hospital and condemned the beatings and injuries the student sustained as abhorrent. He called upon students and teachers who witnessed the assault to come forward and record statements to aid the investigation.
The student’s parents were devastated upon seeing their son in such a state. They immediately rushed him to Hema Hospital in Kisii town for medical attention. The doctors who examined him confirmed the severe testicular injuries and the need for immediate surgical intervention. The damaged testicle had to be surgically removed to prevent further complications.
This is not the first incident involving corporal punishment and abuse in schools in Gusii. Just a week ago, another student reportedly endured similar beatings at the hands of teachers after being accused of cheating in exams.
The incidents have sparked outrage among parents, who have demanded that the Ministry of Education take stern action against guilty teachers to stop the apparent epidemic of school torture. Corporal punishment is illegal in Kenyan schools, and teachers who engage in such practices violate the law and must be held accountable for their actions.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and raised serious concerns about the use of corporal punishment in schools. Parents, students, and members of the public have expressed outrage and demanded justice for the student. Many have called for stricter measures to be taken against teachers who resort to violence as a form of discipline.
