Murder Suspects in Court Over Teacher’s Death in Nyamira
Tuesday, two suspects connected to the murder of a secondary school teacher in Nyamira County were taken before a Kisii Court.
The suspects are accused of murdering Thomson Ndege on Sunday night inside a restaurant in Mosocho. Detectives claim to have surveillance video of the murder.
The deputy principal of Mecheo Secondary School, Cyprian Karuru and Pauline Moraa, are accused of murder.
Detectives have connected a love triangle to the teacher’s murder.
Detectives requested a 14-day detention of the suspects from Kisii Law Courts Magistrate Wa Kugwa Wahinya.
Nonetheless, the court granted the office four days to complete its investigation. On April 14, 2023, a plea will be taken in the case.
“The two will be detained at Nyanchwa Police Station pending investigation. They will appear in this court on Friday,” said the magistrate.
Humphrey Mageto, Moraa’s lawyer, opposed the detectives’ application on the grounds that his client is a civil genius who is required to be at work. At Marani Sub County Hospital, Moraa works as a nurse.
The lawyer said his client would always be available to assist with the investigations.
Mr. Mageto stated, “My client is a civil servant, and her detention for so many days will interfere with her work schedule.”
The teacher’s body was discovered on Sunday at Mosocho in Kitutu Chache South with stab wounds to the head and abdomen.
According to the teacher’s friends, he left home around 7:00 p.m. to attend a friend’s fundraiser in Mosocho.
The Gekomu Seventh-day Adventist Church elder had spent the day in church.
Before being transferred to Mecheo High School in Nyamira County, the deceased worked as a mathematics teacher at Kereri Girls High School, located close to Kisii Town.
