8 Students From Embu County To Be Charged With Arson As Term 3 Begins.
8 students from 4 schools in Embu County are set to be charged with arson for setting fire to their schools and destroying property.
Daniel Rukunga, County Police Commander, said the eight were arrested last year and warned that police officers are closely monitoring cases of indiscipline in schools.
“Last year we arraigned eight students for arson. I am not sure how the cases will end, but they may end up in jail and so be warned and remain disciplined while in school,” Rukunga warned.
Rukunga was speaking during a visit to All Saints Kigari Day Secondary School in Embu North Sub-county by Embu County Commissioner Abdullahi Galgalo and the Embu security committee to inspect and break ground on the construction of junior secondary school classes.
Throughout the tour, Galgalo urged students to avoid acts of indiscipline in order to succeed in their studies and in life after school.
“These acts of criminality will come to haunt you later in life and dent your future careers and job prospects. You may look heroic in school when engaging in acts of hooliganism but remember your life will be destroyed after school,” Galgalo warned.
His call came amid growing concern about rising cases of indiscipline, which have resulted in arson attacks at more than 100 schools across the country, leaving a trail of millions of shillings in damages.
Galgalo urged all stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and spiritual leaders, to work together to mentor and instill good values in students at home.

The NPS has noted that it will take harsh action against the perpetrators and their accomplices. They believe that vendors of petroleum products and other flammables are involved in school fires.
“We urge our officers to ensure fire incidences in schools are expeditiously investigated and culprits charged promptly,” the statement added.
