A school in Kisii has made headlines after a video went viral showing teachers urging pupils to imitate a sexual act.
The video sparked outrage on local social media platforms and led to the arrest of six individuals.
The suspects were identified as Everline Moraa, Gladys Kenyanya, Angelica Joseph, Moraa Nyairo, Catherine Moraa and William Isoka.
The police traced the footage to the Itumbe DOK primate in Nyamache, Bobasi constituency and conducted the arrests on Wednesday.
The sub-county police boss confirmed the arrests and stated that he is currently consulting with education officials before charges are preferred against the suspects.
The teachers’ phones were also confiscated for forensic tests.
The 29-second video has caused widespread shock, with many Kenyans asking if this was part of the new Competence-Based Curriculum syllabus.
The class of the learners has not been disclosed due to the sensitivity of the issue.
The video depicts two boys mounting their fellow pupils in an indecent pattern, while teachers are heard laughing and one female teacher is even heard telling them to show how sex is done.
This has caused immense fury among the public, with many locals expressing their shock and disappointment at the suggestive content of the video.
One local resident, John Ombasa, reported receiving numerous messages from people asking about the new syllabus content.
The public was further incensed by the tone of a female teacher threatening to cane the pupils if they did not comply.
The sub-county police boss has stated that he was also stunned by the depictions in the video. The situation continues to unfold as education officials and the police work together to determine the appropriate actions to be taken.
