What was initially intended as a joyful outing for a group of KCPE candidates from Arap Moi Primary School in Tarakwa, Uasin Gishu County, took a tragic turn when the boat they were riding in suddenly overturned.
This heartbreaking incident unfolded as these students, comprising both Standard Six and Standard Eight pupils, were under the supervision of their teachers on a visit to a local hotel for some leisurely activities.
According to an official police statement, the students and their educators arrived at the location on a fateful Saturday evening around 5 p.m.

Some of the students decided to embark on an adventure by boarding a boat that was navigating a manmade dam, and it was during this excursion that disaster struck as the boat capsized.
Regrettably, all five of the Standard Eight students lost their lives in the accident, leaving behind a scene of heartbreak and sorrow. Only one student from Standard Six managed to survive this tragic incident, though not unscathed.
Medical professionals at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital promptly rushed the survivor to the hospital, where they discovered that the student had critically low oxygen levels, necessitating immediate medical attention.
