358 Makueni ECDE Teachers Confirmed to Permanent and Pensionable Jobs

The County Government of Makueni has officially confirmed 358 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers, who were previously on contract, as permanent and pensionable.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr revealed this development and announced that an additional 453 teachers from the second cohort will undergo the same confirmation process in the upcoming 2024/2025 Financial Year.

The first batch of ECDE teachers confirmed for permanent positions were hired between 2014 and 2017, while the second group, recruited from 2017 to 2023, will see their confirmation starting in July 2024. Letters of confirmation were issued to the teachers during a ceremony outside the governor’s office in Wote town.

Governor Mutula emphasized the importance of timely document submission, urging the 139 teachers who had not provided their documents to the Makueni Public Service Board to do so promptly.

He reiterated his government’s steadfast commitment to creating a conducive educational environment where teachers are regarded as essential partners in students’ transformative journeys.

During the confirmation event, the Governor also flagged off ECDE learning and instructional materials valued at Sh 9.8 million. These materials, including textbooks, writing tools, and desks, will be distributed to 1,197 learning centers across the County.

The gesture symbolizes the government’s dedication to ensuring that educational resources are accessible to every child, eliminating obstacles due to insufficient learning materials.

Governor Mutula emphasized that the distribution of learning materials is aimed at promoting inclusivity by meeting the diverse needs of learners, ensuring each child receives the necessary tools for success.

The Chairperson of the Makueni Public Service Board, Mr. Nicodemus Muteti, disclosed that Sh 65 million has been allocated to pay ECD teachers their salaries in the current Financial Year.

Certificate holders will receive a gross salary of Sh 30,000, while diploma holders will be entitled to Sh 41,000.

Elizabeth Muli, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, challenged teachers to exhibit commitment in executing their duties and emphasized the importance of discipline among educators.
