The United Kingdom advises Kenyan students on visa applications.
On Wednesday, June 28, the United Kingdom (UK) advised Kenyan students planning to visit the country to be aware of changes to the visa application process.
According to a statement issued by the UK Embassy in Nairobi, students should submit their applications by July 31.
It explained that this is to give approvals time, and that priority visas would not be available.
“Start thinking about your Student visa application. You should apply in July if possible rather than waiting until August as Priority and Super Priority visas are currently unavailable globally,” the statement read in part.
The announcement also applies to students who are already in the United Kingdom and wish to extend their visa.
Normally, the embassy issued visas to applicants within three weeks of receiving their documentation. Students could pay more to have the process completed faster.
Those who qualify can choose the ‘priority service’ for Ksh71,392 (GBP500) and receive feedback within five working days, while those who require super priority will pay Ksh114,209 (GBP800) and receive a response the next working day.
A passport or other valid travel documentation, as well as a confirmation of acceptance of studies (CAS) from the host institution, are required for the student permit.
“You need a blank page in your passport for your visa if you need to give your biometric information (fingerprints and a photograph) at a visa application centre,” reads the requirement list on the Embassy’s portal.
Other documents required include proof of financial ability to fund one’s stay and pay for studies, a valid Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate, and tuberculosis test results.
