The government has no plans to increase the education capital allocation, which currently stands at 25.9 percent of the country’s budget.

This is according to the Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha.

Senior Chief Musa Nyandusi mixed secondary school in Kegati Ward, Kisii Central Sub County, Kisii County, is launching phase two CBC classrooms.

Thursday, the CS urged prudent use of available funds, claiming that the budget was constrained until the new government found a way to raise more funds.

Prof. Magoha also urged contractors of CBC classrooms in the area to expedite infrastructure completion because they were lagging behind other counties, some of which were nearing completion.

“Kisii County is at 80 percent, unlike Central Kenya, which is at 100 percent, while Eastern was at 96 percent,” he said.

He claims that this will increase the number of classrooms from 9,000 to 10,000 once the program is completed.

Prof. Magoha chastised those who criticized the ministry for retaining textbook funds, claiming that the government provided books to learners on a one-to-one basis.

Prof. Magoha had previously visited Tambacha C.O.G. Day and boarding mixed secondary school in Marani Sub County, where he dedicated two CBC classrooms and donated 20 computers.

He praised the sub-county for completing all of the facilities completely.

Amos Maroria, the school’s principal, cited inadequate computers as one of the challenges impeding computer studies at the school.

Concerning school fees, the CS stated that parents were experiencing financial hardships, despite the fact that the majority of them were in favor of paying the fees after negotiations.
