Knut Demands Fair Compensation for Dismissed Teachers’ Retirement Benefits
Mr. Collins Oyuu, the Knut Secretary-General, has raised serious concerns about the unjust dismissal of some teachers from their current jobs just before they are about to retire.
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) said that the dismissal denies these teachers their rightful retirement benefits, causing great distress and financial hardship for them.
In response to this distressing issue, Knut is demanding that all teachers who have been dismissed by the government receive proper compensation for their dedicated years of service.
Mr. Oyuu proposed that the amount of compensation should be determined by the number of years the affected teacher was on duty, acknowledging the invaluable contributions they made to the education system.
Senator Moses Kajwang of Homa Bay and county executive committee member for education, Mr. Martin Opee, were present during the meeting.
Senator Kajwang urged Knut to vigorously advocate for the well-being and liberties of teachers, emphasizing that some unions have faced challenges due to their close association with the government.
He stressed the importance of standing firm and independent to ensure that teachers’ rights are protected and their welfare is prioritized.
“Some unions are collapsing because of being in bed with the government.
“Some are on the verge of collapsing because they have been swallowed by the State and can no longer advocate for their members as required,” Mr Kajwang said.
