KCPE Exam Ready As Magoha Directs KNEC On Examination Centre Merger For Far Flung Schools.
Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof. George Magoha has said that the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam is ready to be administered next month.
He assured candidates and parents that the government has put in place elaborate measures to ensure that registered candidates take their final primary school examinations without hitches.
Magoha stated that he has directed the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to ensure that candidates in remote schools take their exams within their schools rather than being relocated to distant examination centres.
“I want to assure remote counties not to worry. We have instructed KNEC to ensure that far-flung school children will be allowed to sit examinations in their own interests. Nobody should allow children to trek 5 or 10 kilometres to sit for examinations,” he added.
Magoha also assured the country that the exams would be conducted without any irregularities, claiming that his ministry had ensured the integrity and credibility of the exam papers printed in the United Kingdom.
He also stated that the examination centres have been consolidated and security has been deployed to secure them, and he warned teachers not to be syndicated in the examination irregularities.
“The government has ensured that there is no leakage of examinations. The only integrity issue will be when some few teachers open the examination papers when removing them from containers. I don’t know what is on those papers,” added Magoha.
Magoha was speaking after commissioning a completed CBC classroom at Aldina Visram Secondary School in Mombasa County. He noted that only 98 projects were pending out of the 6,470 classrooms to be built in the first phase of the project.
He praised the national government officers for their excellent work in implementing the Presidential directive and encouraged them to continue in the same spirit to ensure that the CBC classrooms project is completed within the timeframes specified.
While directing immediate payments to local contractors, the CS added that the government had used the funds budgeted for the CBC classrooms project prudently.
“We have reduced the price of each classroom, from Sh 1.26 million to Sh 788,000 including taxes and if we are at 56 per cent completion rate that tells you something. Kenya is not a poor country and we shall get value for our money. We should not be afraid if it is done in the best interest of the citizen,” he added.

“I want to thank my officers in the field for great work. In terms of ranking, there are four regional directors of education whom I wish to name and that is not to say others are not working. May I continue to encourage ourselves to do our work,” he added.
