Integrity Clubs To Be Established in Schools – EACC

The Ethical and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has asked all schools to form Integrity Clubs.

This is intended to foster integrity in the learners.

Integrity Clubs and EACC from 20 secondary schools in Kisii, Migori, Nyamira, and Homa Bay announced the program.

The Kisii High School event brought together student leaders and integrity club patrons to share best practices in promoting ethical conduct among learners.

EACC Director of Preventive Services Vincent Okong’o praised schools for developing and sponsoring integrity clubs.

“The introduction of Integrity Clubs in schools has greatly improved discipline among learners which is a prerequisite for excellence in academic performance,” he said.

He stated that schools with active Integrity Clubs had seen low levels of strike, stealing, drug usage, and other forms of indiscipline among students thus far.

Okong’o stated that the club will ensure a corrupt free country in the future.

He pointed out that, despite their intelligence, people who are morally deficient perpetrate corruption and other social maladies.

Okong’o paraphrased Theodore Roosevelt, noting that "educating a man in thought but not in morals is educating a menace to society.“

Schools are the target locations, he noted, because young people are vital players in the battle against corruption because they are dynamic, innovative, and untouched by graft.

Integrity Clubs in schools aid in the identification of ethical challenges impacting kids and the development of strategies for resolving them, as well as the promotion of positive values and characteristics.

It also improves students’ understanding of ethics and integrity and enables young people to advocate for good governance as a strategy of countering corruption.

EACC stated that it encourages students to embrace patriotism, promotes a culture of hard labor with integrity, and promotes uncompromising adherence to predetermined norms.

Okong’o stated that the anti-corruption organization expects all schools to form and operate Integrity Clubs in compliance with the circular published by the Ministry of Education in 2010 at EACC’s recommendation.
