Gachagua Asks Universities to Find Ways to Diversify Revenue.

Vice President Rigathi Gachagua has urged universities to diversify their funding streams.

The action, according to Gachagua, will play a significant role in producing cash for the sustainability of higher education institutions.

“I encourage you to take advantage of government agencies like National Research Fund and development partners to sustain your research activities,” he said.

While attending the 52nd graduation ceremony at Kenyatta University on Friday, the DP delivered a speech.

However, he lauded Kenyatta University and other universities that have gone the extra mile to identify alternative revenue-generating strategies.

“I’m aware of the good work going on in most institutions. Allow me to single out the brain child idea of Kenyatta Teaching Referral and Research Hospital,” Gachagua said.

The hospital was useful during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, as stated by the DP.

“This facility must live to serve not only the university community but the nation of Kenya,” he said.

Gachagua advised the administration of the university and the administration of the referral hospital to establish a balance so that the facility could be utilized effectively.

“Use the facility especially in training your students in the field of medicine, this facility should be used for the benefit of all,” he said.

The ceremony took place on the Kenyatta University Main Campus at the Thika Super Highway Graduation Square.

The conferral of degrees, diplomas, and certificates to around 5,500 graduates.

Since the Covid-19 epidemic, this is the second physical graduation ceremony.
