Form One Parents Flock Schools For Slots
Institutions that performed well on the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in Trans Nzoia are experiencing high demand for Form One vacancies from parents.
Despite facing infrastructure challenges, these schools have been inundated with parents seeking admission for their children before the Form One reporting date in the coming month.
For example, St Anthony Boys Kitale, the top-performing school in the county and among the top ten in the country, has seen over 1,000 parents visit the school seeking Form One spots, but due to lack of adequate facilities, they have had to turn them away.
The school has only been allocated 337 Form One slots by the ministry.
“At least 1,000 parents have visited our school seeking Form One slots, but we have turned them away because we don’t have adequate facilities,” Onsare said.
The principal of Goseta Boys school, John Murumba, stated that the school’s facilities are overstretched due to its population of over 2,000 students.
He said they need at least four additional classrooms and two more dormitories, and that the current four laboratories are insufficient.
He also mentioned that four classrooms specifically built for the CBC program will be used to accommodate the growing number of students.
An investigation by The Standard found that most schools in the area have inadequate facilities, despite the government’s push for 100% transition to secondary school.
Other schools, such as St Joseph Girls, St Marks Cherangany, St Francis Makunga, and Anderson Mixed, have also seen a high demand for Form One slots.
