Family Group Foundation Increases High School Scholarship Funding to Sh60 Million

The Family Group Foundation has increased high school scholarship funding to Sh60 million for disadvantaged children entering form one in 2023.

This year’s scholarship program will assist 290 gifted and disadvantaged children from 32 counties to continue their secondary education.

The students will receive full scholarships that cover tuition, housing, school uniforms, and maintenance, and will also have access to a mentor who will advise them on academics, personal development, and careers.

Every child in this country has the right to an inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education.

Through the Family Group Foundation, we are able to give children from disadvantaged families an equitable opportunity to realize their aspirations and improve their lives through education.

In 2023, we plan to increase the number of counties that benefit from this initiative from 14 to 32, according to Rebecca Mbithi, chief executive officer of Family Bank.

Since 2012, the Foundation has funded over Sh250 million in the education sector and granted high school scholarships to over one thousand recipients across the country.

“As a Bank, we are confident that these scholarships go a long way in helping the government achieve 100 per cent transitioning of students to the 1.24 million students who sat for their Kenya Primary School Education Assessment this year.

“This is a reiteration of our commitment to empowering families by catalyzing transformative change for wealth creation,” she added.

The minimum qualifying score for the scholarship will be 350 points on the KCPE in 2022.

The 290 recipients will be selected, interviewed, and recruited by a County-based Scholarship Selection Panel comprised of representatives from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Interior, County Government and Children’s Services Department, Kenya Primary Schools Head Teachers Association (KEPSHA), and faith-based leaders in the counties.

Application forms are available at Family Bank locations and on the website of The Family Group Foundation. The application deadline is January 9, 2023.
