Ministry Of Education Validates Strategic Plan (NESSP)
The Ministry of Education has realigned its strategies, activities, and budget with the national government to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in public service delivery.
During the presentation of the Draft National Education Sector Strategic Plan (NESSP) 2023-2027 at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS), Ezekiel Machogu, reported that stakeholder comments would be considered and incorporated before the final document is published. The launch is tentatively scheduled for the end of February 2024.

Machogu, serving as the vision carrier of the Ministry, conducted a thorough chapter-to-chapter review of the document, addressing missing links and incorporating insights from three working workshops that preceded the validation.
These workshops, inclusive in nature, aimed to capture the perspectives of strategic partners and stakeholders, particularly in transitioning from the 8-4-4 to the CBC system and addressing challenges related to increased enrollment.
The Principal Secretary (PS) of the State Department for Basic Education, Dr. Belio Kipsang, highlighted that the Strategic Plan serves as both an investment document and a performance guide.
He emphasized the importance of aligning with ongoing educational reforms, expressing confidence in the inclusiveness of NESSP through collaboration with strategic and development partners.
Kipsang stressed the need for the document to be more than a mere filing item, challenging stakeholders to actively consider how to achieve objectives and key targets.

He proposed automating the process with the help of ICT colleagues to monitor and evaluate progress towards the set targets.
Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, the Higher Education and Research Principal Secretary (PS), described the presentation of the final draft as the primary blueprint for the next five years, foreseeing increased access and participation in University Education.
She commended the Ministry’s efforts in mainstreaming open distance learning, particularly through the National Open University, which has already admitted 1,500 students excluded from conventional institutions due to various constraints.
Inyangala emphasized the role of partners and stakeholders in supporting the Ministry’s overall objectives.
She recognized the importance of embracing strategic partnerships and collaborations in emerging areas such as digital technology and research to contribute significantly to the economic transformation of the country.
