2023 School Academic Calendar Released; Half Term & Holidays
A 47-week education calendar for primary and secondary school students was issued by the Ministry of Education on January 6.
In a statement to the press, the ministry announced that schools will restore to their normal school schedules on January 23, 2023.
Before students enjoy a three-day midterm break on March 23, 2023, Term One will last thirteen weeks.
The students will resume their studies on March 27, 2023, and will continue until April 22, 2023, when they will take a vacation break.
The second term will then begin on May 8, 2023 for thirteen weeks, followed by a brief break.
The second session’s midterm break was slated to begin on June 29, 2023 and last for three days, ending on July 2, 2023.
The remainder of the second term will last two weeks, and students will be on school holidays from August 8 to August 28, 2023.
Candidates for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education will take their exams between November 6, 2023, and November 9, 2023, during the third term, which will last for ten weeks.
Candidates for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will take their exams over the course of three weeks, from November 10, 2023 to December 1, 2023.
Between December 4, 2023, and December 22, 2023, the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination will be graded.
On Thursday, January 5, the chairman of the National Parents Association (NPA), Silas Obuhatsa, requested that the government consider delaying the normal school calendar’s reinstatement.
Obuhatsa requested that the Ministry of Education provide Grade Six students with sufficient time to transition to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).
“The government has the right to postpone schools reopening for one or two months to have these structures in place before learning can resume,“ he noted.
