Youths have been urged to embrace entrepreneurship, which will lead to economic growth, rather than pursuing elusive white-collar jobs.

The Executive Director of the Youth Empowerment Program Initiative (YEPI), Amani Katana, has advised young men and women to embrace technology and entrepreneurship in order to combat the country’s high unemployment rate.

Instead of relying on public and private institutions for gainful employment, Mr. Katana says the youth should use their initiative and innovations.

He says the YEPI programs encourage young people in precarious situations to regain control of their lives by developing entrepreneurial skills.

According to Katana, the youth organization was founded to combat youth unemployment, poverty, and violent extremism in the nation.

In order to reduce the rising rate of insecurity brought on by poverty and unemployment, the executive director of YEPI believes that youth entrepreneurship can be used for economic empowerment.

He says entrepreneurship and technology are needed in today’s world to sustain the national economy and help the youth thrive and increase their income.

At the 7th annual YEPI Entrepreneurship Summit, held at a hotel in Mombasa with the theme “Promoting Sustainable Entrepreneurship: Driver for Growth,” Katana spoke to the media.

Stemp Program and Governor Startup Challenge are just two of the programs offered by YEPI to help women and youth succeed in business.

The YEPI representative stated that deliberate interventions supporting micro, small, and medium-sized businesses are needed to reduce the country’s rising unemployment projections.

“Entrepreneurship especially among the youth should be encouraged by all and sundry in order to reduce the high unemployment rate in the country,” said Katana.

In order to launch and expand their own business, he advised, any entrepreneur who wants to succeed should adhere to trustworthy business modules.

Katana advised entrepreneurs who wanted to succeed to find and develop a profitable business idea, conduct research on the idea, and identify obstacles and work to overcome them.

The business summit is designed as a networking platform for entrepreneurs, innovators, investors, corporate and government leaders who are committed to supporting and developing entrepreneurship ecosystems, according to Khadija Abdalla, YEPI Programme Coordinator.

Ms. Abdalla says that youth should embrace entrepreneurship as the path to financial success in order to establish their own business empires and achieve financial freedom.

“The summit will better inform our youths to have the mindset that they can move the nation forward by being entrepreneurs,” she said, adding that the forum drew over 200 young aspiring entrepreneurs.

The YEPI Summit, according to her, aims to educate and inspire young people interested in entrepreneurship by providing them with the tools they need to succeed.

She says the annual summit provides excellent networking opportunities, motivational speakers and panel discussions, and the chance to learn the best business practices from successful entrepreneurs.

Ms. Abdalla says that by engaging in entrepreneurship, the majority of youths would become dominant players in the national economy, resulting in national development.

She urged youths to assume a leadership role in entrepreneurship activities in an effort to improve their lot, noting that the conference’s goal was to find solutions to the unemployment problem in the nation.

The youth, according to her, should be daring to be entrepreneurs rather than being obsessed with obtaining employment in the public or private sectors to earn money.

Victor Owino, founder and director of Trek Africa, a tour and travel company, stated that the conference provided the young entrepreneurs with the mindset of becoming the architects of their destiny.

Mr. Owino stated that through the YEPI forums, entrepreneurs learn how to position their products, understand what sets them apart from their competitors, and maintain a focus on quality.
