Woman Reps to Receive Increased Bursary Funds
The government has announced an increase in bursaries to Constituencies through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), with an additional Sh3 million on top of the current Sh6 million.
This move aims to provide more financial support to students in need and enable them to access education through the office of the County Woman Representative, as revealed by Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris.
Passaris expressed her gratitude towards the government for prioritizing education despite the challenges it faces in raising funds. She acknowledged that the government has promised to allocate Sh9 million for each Constituency towards NGAAF, which will allow more students to benefit from educational opportunities.
Speaking in Nairobi while issuing bursary cheques to 800 secondary and tertiary students, Passaris urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity and work hard to achieve their dreams.
She emphasized that education is a fundamental right that should be accessible to all, regardless of their background or circumstances. Investing in education not only benefits the youth, but also has a positive impact on the entire community.
Passaris also highlighted the importance of utilizing limited funds effectively. She stated that it would be pointless to issue bursaries to a large number of students who may eventually drop out of school due to financial constraints.
Instead, she advocated for offering enhanced funds to a smaller number of students, ensuring that they are able to complete their education without facing financial difficulties.
Passaris criticized school principals who send students home for lack of school fees, as this disrupts their learning and may not guarantee payment from families. She suggested that schools should work with parents to find a solution for clearing outstanding balances in light of the current inflation.
In conclusion, the government’s decision to increase bursaries through NGAAF is expected to provide more financial support to students in need and promote access to education.
Passaris expressed her appreciation for the government’s commitment to education and emphasized the importance of utilizing funds effectively to ensure that students can complete their education without facing financial obstacles. She also called for collaboration between schools and parents to address outstanding fees in a more constructive manner.
Education, according to Passaris, is a fundamental right that should be accessible to all, and investing in education has far-reaching benefits for individuals and communities alike.
