Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu provided a light-hearted moment for ministry officials as he unveiled the results of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.

During the announcement, the CS highlighted a decline in performance in subjects such as English, History and Government, Geography, Agriculture, Physics, power mechanics, Art and Design, and Home Science.

In a humorous tone, he mentioned the norm of candidates sitting for subjects like History and Geography in the afternoon, attributing the decline to potential early exposure.

The CS expressed concern about the increased number of students scoring an E grade, stating that it was a source of distress. A total of 48,174 candidates, constituting 5.33 percent, received a mean grade of E.

Despite employing a more flexible system to compute final results, Machogu expressed disappointment and directed the Directorate of Quality Assurance to investigate E grade cases in collaboration with field officers and teachers from each county. He requested a report within one month for further action.

Notably, Machogu had previously hinted at discontinuing the use of SMS service to check national examination results following errors observed during the release of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams.
