Vihiga County Issues Scholarships To Bright But Needy StudentsGovernor Ottichilo’s scholarship was awarded to over 100 deserving and bright students who completed their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in Vihiga County.Vihiga Governor, Dr. Wilber Ottichilo, stated during the launch of the fourth cohort of the scholarship that the County Government will be able to fully sponsor the 100 students chosen from over 450 applications.Dr. Ottichilo urged the beneficiaries to work hard and smartly in order to achieve good results, which will allow the majority of them to enroll in universities and other institutions of higher learning at the end of four years.He urged the students to maintain discipline, stating that good results can only be obtained through discipline and hard work.Those who are disobedient and perform poorly will be dropped from the program, and their parents will be forced to pay their school fees and meet their other needs.“You have been privileged to benefit from this scholarship, therefore, focus on education, do not be swayed by other things so that you can become better leaders in future,” said Ottichilo.Jane Khavere from Shamakhokho, one of the parents, was overcome with emotion and cried as she thanked the Governor for considering her child and other children, stating that their future depends on education.Khavere said she had given up on taking her daughter to school because her husband is irresponsible and they live in deplorable conditions, going without food at times.ALSO READ:Ian Lusigi, who scored 408 points in KCPE from Mago Primary School and was called to Maseno High School, expressed his gratitude to the Governor for considering him and promised to work hard in school.He stated that the Scholarship has given him hope and that he will work hard to ensure that his dreams come true.The Governor’s Scholarship began in 2019 and has so far had 447 recipients, all of whom are fully sponsored by the County Government of Vihiga.Vihiga County Issues Scholarships To Bright But Needy Students
