A multi-agency team apprehended a Zetech University student who was allegedly selling fake Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination papers.
The suspect was led into a trap that flashed him from his hideout in an operation led by undercover agents attached to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) and others drawn from the Monitoring and Surveillance Unit.
The Monitoring and Surveillance Unit is a division of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) based on Kiambu Road.
Detectives seized several printed fake examination papers and others stored in his mobile phone as soft copies after his arrest.
According to the DCI, the suspect allegedly set up a number of social media pages, including WhatsApp groups, where he sold exam papers to unsuspecting students.
“The suspect was charging them Ksh2,600 for Science papers and Ksh1,600 for Humanities,” the agency’s statement read in part.
He was immediately taken into custody and will be charged with examination malpractice when he appears in court.
“The suspect contravened section 28 of National Examination malpractices Act 29, 2012,” DCI stated.
