Utalii College Signs MOUs with African Nations to Expand Training Across Africa

Kenya Utalii College (KUC) intends to train more students from the African continent, according to the institution’s council chairman, David Wamatsi.

Seven countries have requested hospitality training, according to Mr. Wamatsi, who was in Mombasa with Anthony Mbehelo, the college’s interim principal and chief executive.

He mentioned that they had signed seven Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with seven African countries, which they planned to implement, without specifying the names of the countries.

In October 2018, former President Uhuru Kenyatta granted 50 Zambian students a complete presidential scholarship to study in a variety of disciplines at KUC.

On Saturday, Wamatsi said the college would be modernized and expanded to accommodate more students. At the recently concluded Mombasa International Agricultural Show, KUC won the award for the best hospitality and catering services exhibit for 2023.

He mentioned that, as a council, their commitment was firmly rooted in the pillar that promotes the sustainability of college operations while actively contributing to tourism development and aiding in its recovery in the post-Covid-19 era. He also stated that the institution would explore opportunities to diversify its sources of revenue.

Mr. Wamatsi stated that the institution is positioning itself to capitalize on the Blue Economy’s opportunities. The general manager of the Utalii Hotel, Roseline Gicheru, was with the KUC chairman when he declared that the organization would give Kenyans who land jobs on international cruise ships top-notch training.

He stated that they were collaborating with the Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) to identify training gaps. Additionally, he noted that they had established strong working partnerships with prominent international cruise liners such as MSC Cruises, Royal Caribbean, and Celebrity Cruises.

This month, according to him, KUC will fully automate its course application procedure. Mbehelo stated that KUC intends to implement a new curriculum.
