
University of Embu Named Best in Scientific Research.
In the most recent Alper-Doger (AD) Scientific Index ranking, the University of Embu ranked sixth out of 51 Kenyan universities for scientific research.
The AD Scientific Index is a ranking system that evaluates world journals and universities based on scientific performance and the added value of individual scientists’ scientific productivity.
Prof. Daniel Mugendi, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, was also named as one of Kenya’s top researchers, ranking 12th, for his scholarly articles and contributions to high-impact journals in agriculture, forestry, and natural resource management.
The VC, who is also a lecturer in the Department of Water and Agricultural Resources Management, has written and published numerous books and scholarly articles.
Twenty other lecturers from various departments at the university were also named among the top researchers in the country, including Dr. Josephine Ngunjiri, who was ranked 50th for her contributions to medical and health sciences, particularly parasitology.

“It is indeed a huge milestone for us and an affirmation of our academic staff commitment towards contributing to groundbreaking research at an international scale,” Prof. Mugendi noted in a press statement released to the media.
He stated that the accomplishment was a significant indicator of what teamwork could accomplish and that the university has invested heavily in training and capacity building to strengthen the academic staff’s research output.

“The ranking is a true reflection of the contribution of UoEm to research at the national and international level,” the don said as he appreciated the University Council, Management, Senate, staff and students and stakeholders for their contribution towards the good performance of the university.
The award comes just a few months after the university was named Kenya’s best performing State Corporation during the 2019/2020 fiscal year performance contract cycle for Government Ministries, Departments, Agencies, State Corporations, and Tertiary Institutions in the Ministry of Education.
