University Funding to Double —President Ruto
On Saturday, President William Ruto announced plans to increase the funds allocated to tertiary institutions. He spoke at a launch event in Laare, Meru County, and stated that the move would help improve the quality of education.
According to the President, a new and comprehensive funding mechanism would be in place from May. The President also inaugurated the tarmacking of the Kaelo-Kamukunji-Mutuati Road at the event, which he predicted would be completed by December 2023.
“From May, we are going to have a new and comprehensive funding mechanism,” he said.
According to Ruto, technical colleges and universities are not getting enough funding, and this is causing problems in these institutions. Therefore, the resources going to these schools will be doubled to eliminate the challenges they face.
Ruto also mentioned that they will be making an announcement next week, introducing a new and comprehensive model to ensure that the quality of education is not compromised.
This announcement will be made in time for those who will be joining these schools in May to benefit from the new model. By providing more funding to technical colleges and universities, Ruto hopes to improve the quality of education and ensure that students receive the best possible education.
The President later went to Buuri Constituency, where he inaugurated the Kiirua Buuri Irrigation Development Project. This project will benefit more than 5,000 farmers in the area and improve food and nutrition security while enhancing farm income to Ksh.400 million annually.
The President stated that the government was committed to shifting from rain-dependent agriculture to irrigation-fed agriculture to make it more commercial and sustainable.
President Ruto also indicated that he would not participate in any exercise meant to further the interests of politicians. He argued that it was not fair for politicians to continue pushing for their interests at the expense of the people six months after the elections.
