Two School Buses Full of Students Collide, Resulting in Death

On Wednesday morning, April 5, two school buses collided along the Kagio-Baricho road in Kirinyaga County, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries to students.

Residents in the vicinity of the accident scene rushed to the aid of victims in the two vehicles, while police officers arrived to assess the situation.

In addition, welders were present to cut through the vehicle in order to free the victims.

According to photographs viewed by Kenyans.co.ke, the buses collided on the side, shattering the windows and damaging the front sections.

The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals where first aid was administered by emergency service providers.

The body was transported to a nearby morgue.According to one resident, they heard noises, and ten minutes later, the buses collided, prompting them to rush to the accident scene.

“We rushed and rescued the students from the bus and took those who were severely injured to the hospital,” the resident stated.

The manager of one of the schools reportedly died on the spot.

Another resident recounted that they had come to the scene at around 6 am in the morning in an attempt to save the students. According to the resident, two buses were taking the students to school.

According to the most recent data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), there were 1,072 fatalities reported between January and March of 2023.

After a recent accident involving a Pwani University bus, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen will begin a nationwide crackdown on unroadworthy vehicles on Monday, April 3.

Murkomen announced that all vehicles would be inspected, and each motorist would be issued an inspection certificate to confirm that they had been servicing the vehicle, had good brakes, and so on.
