TSC Urge Teachers To Provide Psychological Support To Junior Secondary School Students.Nancy Macharia, Chief Executive Officer of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), has urged teachers to pay special attention to and provide psychological support to junior secondary school students.Unlike the defunct 8-4-4 system, the new 2-6-3-3 system will include junior and senior secondary schools. In contrast to the 8-4-4 system, which admits students as young as 14 in Form One, junior schools will accept children as young as 12 years old.Dr. Macharia stated that the training, which will end on May 13, is aimed at 60,000 teachers.Macharia said TSC and the Ministry of Education are also collaborating closely to ensure a smooth learning transition for students as they progress to the next grade level. The CBC curriculum’s pioneer group, now in Grade Five, is expected to advance to Grade Six on April 27, when schools reopen for the new academic year. The teachers will be put through a crash course designed to prepare them to teach key subjects in junior secondary school the following year. The first phase of the program will target teachers who teach Science and Physical Education to the first cohort of Grade 6 Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) graduates who will take their national assessments later this year.Grade 6 students will transfer to junior secondary schools in 2023.
