TSC To Recruit 6,000 Teachers For Internship.According to Nancy Macharia, Chief Executive Officer of the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC), the Commission is looking to hire 6,000 interns to help reduce Kenya’s teacher shortage.Macharia stated that the National Treasury has approved the release of Sh1.2 billion for the purpose of hiring and compensating interns.The majority of the interns will be assigned to secondary schools in sub-counties. Kenya, according to the TSC chief, has a teacher shortage of 114,581.She spoke at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Headquarters on Dennis Pritt Road in Nairobi on Saturday, April 23, during the release of the 2021 KCSE results.According to Macharia, the TSC has hired 28,000 interns to help manage the shortage.She went on to say that the National Treasury had released Sh2.5 billion to hire 5,000 more teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.“I wish to assure the country that the Commission will immediately embark on the exercise to recruit the teachers to ensure that they report to work as soon as possible, to ease the existing teacher-shortage in schools,” she said.Teachers who do outstanding work will be recognized through the Mwalimu Awards, a new reward program.President Uhuru Kenyatta, according to Macharia, has accepted the proposal outlining the rewards procedure.The TSC chief also announced that beginning Monday, April 25, secondary school teachers will be trained on CBC in preparation for the launch of junior secondary in January 2023.“The public should be well-assured that all our teachers in secondary schools will have been tooled by January to welcome the junior secondary school students,” she said.All 229,292 primary school teachers will also be trained on CBC.The TSC chief stated that 1,594 school principals who were set to retire in 2020 or 2021 but had their contracts extended to avoid a leadership crisis as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic can now retire.ALSO READ:According to Macharia, the vacancies they will leave will be filled by January 2023.Secondary school principals and primary school principals are among the school leaders.Macharia also praised 16,000 teachers who, despite being advised to stay at home due to Covid-19, braved the disease’s dangers and physically reported to work.TSC To Recruit 6,000 Teachers For Internship
