The TSC Director of Quality Assurance Dr Reuben Nthamburi has emphasised the commission’s commitment to promoting STEM subject adoption among students, highlighting their significance in encouraging creativity and innovation, which are critical to the country’s industrialization drive.

Nthamburi stated that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will support recommendations to ensure that 60% of students enrol in STEM subjects, 15% in sports and arts, and 25% in social sciences, in order to achieve a balanced curriculum.

Furthermore, TSC vowed to support CEMESTEA’s initiatives by allocating appropriate financing for ongoing teacher training through professional development programmes that will be conducted across counties.

Jecinta Akatsa, CEO of CEMESTEA, emphasised ongoing collaborations with the Education Ministry, TSC, and other stakeholders to improve teacher capacity and encourage student creativity and innovation.

She emphasised the implementation of coding training in five counties, made possible by the government’s funding of current gadgets, with plans to expand to other schools.

To encourage innovation, Akatsa announced school competitions in which students could demonstrate their inventive solutions for overcoming modern difficulties and optimising operations. She reaffirmed CEMESTEA’s commitment to developing the capacity of science-oriented teachers, emphasising their critical role in fostering kids’ early enthusiasm for STEM disciplines.
