TSC Releases Data on School Head Promotions: Nearly 20,000 Roles Up for Grabs.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has detailed the number of school heads to be promoted across various categories in its advertisement for 19,943 job vacancies.
Positions for Chief Principals and Senior Principals
The TSC seeks to promote 44 Chief Principals in regular schools at T-scale 15, grade D5, and 3 Chief Principals in Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) at the same scale. Additionally, 126 Senior Principals in regular schools and 3 Senior Principals in TTCs, both at T-scale 14 and grade D4, are needed.
Positions for Principals and Deputy Principals
A total of 652 Principals for regular schools at T-scale 13, grade D3, and 3 Deputy Principal I for TTCs at the same scale are sought. Furthermore, TSC is looking for 786 Deputy Principal II for secondary schools at T-scale 12, grade D2, alongside 13 Senior Lecturer I for TTCs within the same scale.
The Commission also advertised 1,408 Deputy Principal III positions for regular schools at T-scale 11, grade D1, and 32 Senior Lecturer II positions for TTCs at the same scale. Additionally, 2 Senior Master II positions for secondary SNE schools and 1,987 Senior Master III positions for regular schools at T-scale 10, grade C5, are included.
Senior Master and Teacher Positions
The vacancies include 6 Senior Master III positions for secondary SNE schools and 61 Senior Lecturer III positions for TTCs at T-scale 10, grade C5. There are also 2,221 Senior Master IV positions at T-scale 9, grade C4, alongside 70 Senior Lecturer IV positions for TTCs at the same scale.
For diploma teachers, 184 Secondary Teacher I positions are open at T-scale 8, grade C3, while 7 Lecturer I positions at the same scale are available. TSC has advertised 254 Senior Head Teacher positions for regular schools and 7 Senior Head Teacher positions for SNE schools at T-scale 11, grade D1.
Primary School Promotions
The vacancies further extend to 2,130 Head Teacher positions for regular schools and 33 Head Teacher positions for SNE primary schools at T-scale 10, grade C5. Additionally, TSC is seeking 3,653 Deputy Head Teacher II for regular primary schools and 33 for SNE schools at T-scale 9, grade C4.
Promotions for senior teachers include 4,703 Senior Teacher I positions for regular primary schools and 77 for SNE schools at T-scale 8, grade C3. The advertisement also includes 1,364 Senior Teacher II positions for regular primary schools and 81 for SNE schools at T-scale 7, grade C2.
Application Process
TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia emphasized that interested candidates must submit their applications online through the TSC portal, www.teachersonline.go.ke, by midnight on December 30, 2024.
Candidates who had previously applied under Advert 1 to 4 of 2024, from November 12 to 18, are encouraged to reapply. Manual applications will not be accepted, and successful candidates will be posted to available vacancies.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to equal opportunity, encouraging persons with disabilities to apply. Successful candidates must provide valid Chapter 6 documents before receiving appointments.
