TSC Registers 49,185 Teachers: Documentary Requirements for Registration
A total of 49,185 teachers were registered last year according to TSC Annual Report 2022/2023.
Among them, 23,230 held degrees, 2,371 possessed diplomas, 10,500 had primary teacher education certificates, and 13,084 were holders of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) certificates.

Documentary Requirements for TSC Teacher Registration
The Teachers Service Commission Act of 2012, as outlined in Article 237, mandates the commission to register all eligible teachers before they can engage in teaching within public or private educational institutions.
Within a span of 30 days, a qualified teacher meeting the registration criteria will receive a Certificate of Registration bearing a unique TSC number, and the names of all registered teachers will be annually published.
To initiate the registration process, applicants are required to submit online applications, with a user guide provided for assistance. The submission of scanned copies of certain documents is a crucial part of this process:
- Certified copies of academic and professional certificates
- National identity card
- Bank slip
- One passport size photo
- KRA pin
- GP69 form
- Certificate of good conduct
- Entry and work permits for non-Kenyans.

For new registration, a non-refundable fee of Kshs. 1050/- is to be paid through various E-Citizen government payment methods (MPesa, Airtel Money, KCB Cash, Equity Cash, E-Agent) before submitting the application.
In the case of applying for a Duplicate Certificate, a non-refundable fee of Kshs. 2050/- is required through the same E-Citizen government payment methods before submitting the application.
It’s important to note that only original documents should be scanned for submission.
To complete the registration or duplicate certificate application process, payment must be made using the specified government payment methods.
