TSC Promoted Teachers to Serve Outside Sub-Counties

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has unveiled the names of educators who underwent successful promotions in December and January interviews. The extensive list, spanning 724 pages, is now available on the TSC website. It exclusively features the TSC numbers and applied advert numbers of the teachers.

A total of 36,505 teachers, deemed successful, are set to receive promotion letters and are obligated to submit five Chapter six documents. These documents, mandated by the Kenyan Constitution’s ‘Leadership and Integrity’ under Chapter six, include:

  1. Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at a cost of 1,050/-
  2. Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) at no cost
  3. Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) at no cost
  4. Clearance from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) at no cost
  5. A Clearance Certificate from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) costing 2,200/-

Teachers who were unsuccessful in the promotions will receive regret letters as evidence of their interview attendance.

It has been disclosed by a reliable source that teachers promoted to administrative roles, particularly deputy and headteacher positions, will be reassigned outside their sub-counties but within the county. Conversely, those promoted to senior teacher positions will be placed in schools with vacancies within their sub-counties. Acting positions will be retained by teachers who have been confirmed in those roles for several years.

In September of the previous year, the Commission advertised a total of 36,505 promotion vacancies for primary and post-primary school teachers. The interviews for primary school teachers took place from December 4th to 15th, 2023, while secondary school teachers and Teacher Training College (TTC) tutors underwent interviews from January 3rd to 16th, 2024.

The recent publication of the successful list by TSC has led to disappointment among many teachers who perceive the promotions as unjust. There are widespread complaints that very junior teachers were promoted, leaving more senior colleagues who have served for many years without promotion.

TSC has announced its intention to promote an additional 6,000 primary school teachers through deployment to junior school. The Commission advertised 6,000 deployment slots for serving primary school teachers with a degree in the secondary option. Interested teachers are required to apply online by March 18, 2024.

TSC plans to promote PTE (Primary Teacher Education) teachers by assigning them to serve in junior secondary school sections in the upcoming term. Qualified teachers are encouraged to apply for deployment by March 18.

Primary school teachers wishing to be deployed to Junior Secondary School (JSS) must meet specific requirements, including active registration as a teacher with the Teachers Service Commission, employment as a primary school teacher with the TSC, and possessing a minimum of a Diploma in Education with a minimum of C+ at KCSE (or its equivalent).

Additionally, they must meet certain criteria for teaching subjects and hold a degree certificate in Bachelor of Education, excluding holders of Bachelor of Education (Primary Option).
