TSC Promises To Consider Areas With Teachers Shortage During Recruiting And Deployment
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will consider areas with teacher shortages when recruiting and deploying teachers. This is according to TSC Chairperson Dr Jamleck Muturi.
In a press conference at Tambach Teachers Training College in Elgeyo Marakwet County, he announced that the Commission has launched a program to replace teachers who have left the service due to natural causes.
While admitting teachers shortage in the country, the commission’s chairman stated that the government is working to increase the number of teachers in schools in order to improve learning quality in all government institutions.
Muturi added that there are open positions available to replace teachers who left due to natural attrition.
“Nationally we have a deficit of about 100,000 teachers, but the government is always giving us the opportunity to recruit 5,000 teachers every year,” he said.
Muturi told various stakeholders in the education sector in Elgeyo Marakwet to collaborate in order to achieve quality education across the county.
He stated that they are currently recruiting teachers across the country and encourage those who have graduated to apply.
