TSC: No Technology Can Replace a Teacher in the Classroom

TSC: No Technology Can Replace a Teacher in the Classroom.

While acknowledging that technology cannot replace teachers in the classroom, Dr. Nancy Macharia, the CEO of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) emphasized that as a developing country, it is important to embrace advancements that can enhance the delivery of education.

In her remarks, Dr. Macharia explained the new initiative that involves live-streaming lessons from one central school to multiple satellite schools.

“No technology can actually replace a teacher in class; however, we are a developing a country so we have come up with live streaming of lessons,” she said.

The live streaming initiative will allow a principal school to conduct lessons that are broadcasted to several other schools, potentially five or four, through satellite connections.

This innovation, Dr. Macharia noted, aims to ensure that students, particularly those in remote or under-resourced areas, have access to quality education even in the absence of a physical teacher.

She reiterated the importance of leveraging technology to bridge gaps in educational access, saying, “We have a principal school that can teach, and the lessons are live-streamed to other schools, ensuring that no learner is left behind.”

By implementing this solution, the TSC hopes to not only improve the accessibility of learning but also ensure that students in underserved schools are provided with consistent and quality educational experiences.
