Education CS George Magoha advised teachers to get Covid-19 booster shots to boost their immunity as the virus continues to mutate.
“As we start the third term, we wish you every success as you prepare for the KCPE and KCSE. For protection against COVID-19, we encourage you to go for the booster vaccine, in addition to the full jab offered to you in 2021. We value your work.” Said TSC on Friday.
Since the exercise began on January 1, over 13,218 people have received Covid-19 booster shots.
Kenya authorized the administration of the Covid-19 vaccine booster in the most recent vaccination guidelines, which were issued less than two weeks ago.
Kenyans who have been fully vaccinated will now receive an additional dose of either Moderna, AstraZeneca, or Pfizer vaccine six months after completing the primary series, according to the Health Ministry’s updated guidelines.
The new guidelines were developed in response to advice from the Kenya National Immunisation Technical Advisory Group (KENITAG).
The advisory committee also approved vaccine mixing and matching after the World Health Organization issued interim recommendations on the subject.
A Covid-19 booster shot is an additional dose of a vaccine administered after the protection provided by the original shot(s) has begun to wane naturally over time.
A booster tricks the immune system into thinking it is seeing a pathogen again, causing antibody-producing cells and other immune cells to be activated.
Experts recommend that the isolation period for patients with Covid-19 be reduced from 14 to five days.
After the highly transmissible Omicron variant was reported to be “sending daily caseloads soaring in Kenya and other countries,” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended shortening the quarantine period.
According to the CDC’s latest report, “the virus is most contagious in the two days before and three days after symptoms develop,” but those “with symptoms after five days are encouraged to stay at home.”

In addition to quarantining for five days, those who have been exposed to coronavirus and have received booster shots should “wear masks around others for an additional five days,” according to the report.
However, those who have been exposed to the infection and have received booster shots do not need to quarantine but should wear a mask for ten days.
