TSC Investigates School Principal Who Allegedly Raped KCSE Student.
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) officials in Makueni County have launched an investigation into an alleged rape of an 18-year-old student by a school principal two weeks ago.
Makueni County TSC Director Alex Cheruiyot stated that he learned of the incident on Tuesday and that his officers immediately began an investigation with the intention of taking disciplinary action against the principal if he is found guilty.
Cheruiyot described the incident as unfortunate, coming from an officer who is supposed to look after students who have been placed under his custody.
“This is an unfortunate and barbaric incident committed by an individual who has been given custody of students by the public. We will take stern action against the principal if found culpable,” said Cheruiyot while speaking to KNA on Saturday.
The principal allegedly committed the crime on the night of March 26-27, 2022, when he lured the girl from the dormitory to his house within the school compound and raped her before releasing her the next morning to sit for her final paper in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
The teacher was arrested on Friday and is being held at Kilungu Police Station. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday to face rape charges.
The incident was reported to the police by the student’s father after his daughter described the ordeal she went through before sitting for her final KCSE exam.
According to TSC data, the most sexual harassment cases were reported in 2019, with 124 teachers being fired and deregistered.
During the 2018 national examinations, teen pregnancies reached an all-time high, raising concerns among the public and stakeholders.
