TSC Gives Teachers Up to 6th February To Apply For Junior Secondary School (JSS) Deployment
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced that primary school teachers will be given priority for the opportunities to fill the deficit of teachers in the implementation of junior secondary schools.
In a statement released on January 28, TSC opened a window for interested candidates to apply for deployment in the JSS.
To apply, candidates will need to use the commission’s website via the link https://tsconline.tsc.go.ke/tsc-teacher/login.
The window for applications will run until February 6, 2023.
The TSC has clarified that only teachers serving under permanent and pensionable terms of service (P&P) in public primary schools are encouraged to apply.
Candidates will be required to have at least a C+ (Plus) mean grade in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate or any other assessment equivalent to it.
They will also need to have at least a C+ (Plus) in the two teaching subjects at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent.
In order to qualify, candidates must also have at least 8 units in each of the two teaching subjects and should be primary school teachers at the time of application.
Junior secondary schools are set to commence activities on January 30, according to a circular from the Ministry of Education.
In preparation for the transition of grade six graduates, the government has been working on increasing staffing through the announcement of 30,000 vacancies in December 2022.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced that the process of executing the transition is progressing well after the approval of additional guidelines regarding the management of JSS.
He also announced plans for the government to allocate more funds towards addressing challenges that could impede the implementation of the Competency-Based-Curriculum in public schools.
This move aims to ensure that the transition to junior secondary schools runs smoothly and that there is adequate staffing to meet the needs of students.
