The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer, Nancy Macharia, has expressed the sentiment that teachers, without a doubt, deserve to be celebrated for their remarkable contributions to education.

Dr. Macharia emphasized that teachers have consistently delivered exemplary educational services in schools across Kenya.

Dr. Macharia conveyed these sentiments on Thursday in Nairobi during the 2023 World Teacher’s Day celebrations.

In her address, Dr. Macharia reiterated, “Teachers have done exceedingly well in Kenya. We are celebrating them for many reasons.”

Today, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will celebrate and honor 592 exceptional teachers, recognizing their remarkable contributions in alignment with the Performance, Recognition, Reward, and Sanction Policy Framework.

The CEO of TSC, Dr. Nancy Macharia, emphasized the commission’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing the welfare of teachers.

She emphasized that the success of the education system is intricately linked to the dedication and hard work of educators. As she put it, “When you see us succeeding, the teacher is at the front.”

Dr. Nancy Macharia highlighted several compelling reasons behind the celebration of these outstanding teachers:

1. Restoration of the School Calendar

The teachers played a crucial role in the successful restoration of the school calendar, ensuring that students could continue their education despite disruptions caused by various challenges.

2. Transitioning of Grade 6 Learners to Grade 7:

This achievement underscores the commitment of these educators to the seamless progression of students through the education system, providing a solid foundation for their future academic endeavors.

3. Participation in CBC and Retooling of Teachers:

The introduction of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) marked a significant shift in the Kenyan education system.

These honored teachers actively participated in retooling themselves and their colleagues to effectively implement CBC, ensuring that students receive a well-rounded and contemporary education.

4. Successful Review of the 2021–2025 CBA:

The dedication of these teachers played a pivotal role in the successful review of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the years 2021-2025.

Their input and commitment to negotiations have contributed to improved terms and conditions for teachers.
